Serving the families is a privilege and an honor we take seriously.  We will assist you in obtaining the benefits to which your loved one is entitled.

Military Honors & Flag

We will apply, on behalf of the veteran's family, for a United States Burial Flag.  We will, at your request, and at no cost to your family, arrange Military Honors to be presented at the funeral, memorial service or cemetery.  During these honors, Taps will be played, a gun salute will be provided and the Flag folded and presented to your family by the military. The ceremony is performed by at least two active members of the Armed Forces; at least one will be from the Armed Force in which the deceased veteran service.  The active detail is usually assisted by the local American Legion or V.F.W. 

The Veterans Administration provides the following benefits to eligible veterans:

Partial Reimbursement of Burial Expenses

Veterans Administration (VA) burial allowances are partial reimbursement of eligible veterans’ burial and funeral costs. 

• When the cause of death is not service-related, VA may be able to pay two modest allowances: one for burial and funeral expenses, and one for the cemetery plot.

• When the cause of death is service-related, the reimbursement comes in the form of a single, larger payment for burial and funeral expenses.  If the veteran is buried in a VA national cemetery, VA may pay a reimbursement for transportation costs.

Presidential Memorial Certificates

A Presidential Memorial Certificate is a gold-embossed paper certificate bearing the official signature of the current President of the United States, to honor the memory of deceased honorably discharged Veterans.

Headstones, Markers and Medallions for Placement in Private Cemeteries

The Veterans Administration (VA) furnishes upon request, at no charge to the applicant, a government headstone, marker, or medallion (that will be affixed to an existing privately purchased headstone or marker) for the grave of any deceased eligible Veteran in any cemetery.

Burial in a National Cemetery

Burial benefits available include a gravesite in any of the 131 national cemeteries with available space, opening and closing of the grave, perpetual care, and Government headstone or marker at no cost to the family. Cremated remains are buried or inurned in national cemeteries in the same manner as casketed remains.  Burial benefits available for spouses and dependents buried in a national cemetery include burial with the Veteran, perpetual care, and the spouse’s or dependent’s name and date of birth and death inscribed on the Veteran’s headstone, at no cost to the family.  Eligible spouses and dependent may be buried, even if they predecease the Veteran.

Upon meeting eligibility standards, veterans are provided a burial at no cost.  A fee applies for a non-veteran souse or dependent child of an eligible veteran.  Eligibility is typically established from the DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty.  Veterans may establish in advance their eligibility and pre-register for no cost or obligation at www.WisVets.com.
