Things You Didn't Know About Your Funeral Director

When I was growing up, I had a recurring nightmare about walking down the stairs in a funeral home to the basement into a room where there were dead bodies. That was truly a nightmare as a child.  I would also close my eyes anytime I knew we were driving by a cemetery.  And, I thought funeral directors were the scariest people.  All that changed 20 years ago when my husband died at the age of 37, and I had to plan his funeral.  Ten years ago, I retired from a 32-year career working primarily as an administrative assistant at Thrivent Financial and became a licensed funeral director.

One of the things I’ve learned is that many people (including myself before my husband died), have misconceptions about funeral directors.  I have found funeral directors are some of the nicest, most caring people I know. So I’d like to dispel some misconceptions and share some things you may not know about these amazing people.
